“Dal bar osservo un uomo sulla sessantina che è appena entrato. Indossa un abito trasandato e occhiali da sole troppo piccoli per il suo viso. Senza dire una parola, si dirige verso il palco improvvisato. Prende il microfono. Le poche persone nel bar rimangono ignare della scena, con gli occhi fissi sulle loro pinte finite a metà. La musica inizia. Queste fotografie sono state scattate tra il 2013 e il 2022 nelle seguenti città e paesi del Galles del Sud: Porthcawl, Merthyr Tydfil, Swansea, Barry Island, Nantyglo, Merthyr Vale, Cardiff, Newport, Abertillery, Caerleon, Pontypool, Brynmawr e Swffryd. Nelle comunità operaie del Galles del Sud, ta-ra è un altro modo per dire addio”.
Le fotografie di Sebastián Bruno, incentrate soprattutto su scene di vita quotidiana, hanno un sapore tutto particolare and grazie a una struttura narrativa dei suoi progetti che accoglie la sfida di “fotografare una situazione, una persona o un oggetto apparentemente ordinario e trasformarlo in qualcos’altro”.
Dalla sua prima pubblicazione con Ediciones Anómalas, Duelos y Quebrantos, in cui i territori del Don Quischotte vengono raccontanti con sguardo ironico e curioso, e in cui, attraverso fotografie in bianco e nero e un uso divertito del flash, l’autore si trasforma in un alter ego contemporaneo del famoso protagonista del racconto del Cervantes, Sebastián Bruno ci accompagna in universi familiari che si caricano a tratti di un tono straordinario, quasi avventuroso, dove anche la banalità non passa innosservata. In Ta-ra, la sua narrazione si sposta geograficamente, ma il suo stile e il suo approccio alle persone e ai contesti in cui vivono confermano un’attenta ed empatica vitalità che ci aiuta a guardare il mondo intorno a noi con altrettanta curiosità e senso di vicinanza.
Il 6 e 7 aprile Sebastián Bruno terrà da Leporello e in giro per il Pigneto un workshop sull’uso del flash, con uno slideshow finale dei lavori dell3 partecipant3 e una playlist a cura di Fabio Severo.

Sebastián Bruno è un fotografo e filmaker di origine argentina. Nel 2010 si trasferisce da Buenos Aires a Cardiff per studiare fotografia documentaria alla University of South Wales. Vive e lavora fra il Galles e la Francia.

“From the bar I watch a man in his sixties who has just walked in. He is wearing a shabby suit and sunglasses that are too small for his face. Without saying a word, he makes his way to the makeshift stage. He picks up the microphone. The few people in the bar remain oblivious to the scene, their eyes fixed on their half-finished pints. The music starts. These photographs were made between 2013 and 2022 in the following cities and towns in South Wales: Porthcawl, Merthyr Tydfil, Swansea, Barry Island, Nantyglo, Merthyr Vale, Cardiff, Newport, Abertillery, Caerleon, Pontypool, Brynmawr and Swffryd. In the working class communities of South Wales, ta-ra is another way of saying goodbye.”
Sebastián Bruno’s photographs, mostly focusing on everyday life, have a peculiar flavour, also thanks to the narrative structure of his projects as he welcomes the challenge of “photographing a seemingly ordinary situation, person or object and transforming it into something else”.
Since his first publication with Ediciones Anómalas, Duelos y Quebrantos, in which the territories of Don Quixote are explored with an ironic and curious look, and in which, through black and white photographs and an amused use of flash, the author transforms himself into a contemporary alter ego of the famous protagonist of Cervantes’ story, Sebastián Bruno brings us into universes familiar yet charged by a touch of extra-ordinary, almost adventurous, where even banality does not go unnoticed. In Ta-ra, his narrative shifts geographically, but his style and approach to people and the contexts in which they live confirms a careful and empathetic vitality that helps us look at the world around with equal curiosity and sense of closeness.
On April 6th and 7th Sebastián Bruno will hold a workshop on the use of flash and portraiture in Leporello and around Pigneto, with a participants’ final slideshow on April 7th accompanied by a playlist by Fabio Severo.

Sebastián Bruno is a photographer and filmmaker of Argentine origin. In 2010 he moved from Buenos Aires to Cardiff to study documentary photography at the University of South Wales. He lives and works between Wales and France.
