Incontriamo la fumettista libanese Lena Merhej in occasione dell\’uscita in Italia del suo graphic novel “Marmellata con laban (come mia madre è diventata libanese)” per Edizioni Mesogea, traduzione dall\’arabo di Enrica Battista.

Lena Merhej, nata nel 1977 da madre tedesca e padre libanese, al momento vive a Marsiglia.
È tra i fondatori di Samandal, rivista di fumetti libanese indipendente e sperimentale, nata nel 2007, pionieristica per la scena del fumetto arabo e vincitrice del premio per il miglior fumetto alternativo al festival di Angoulême 2019.
Ha illustrato numerosi libri per l\’infanzia, ha realizzato cartoni animati e ha scritto e disegnato storie a fumetti lunghe e brevi, vincendo diversi premi internazionali. Nei suoi lavori sono centrali i temi della guerra, dell\’infanzia, dell\’identità e delle migrazioni.
Dopo un dottorato in Visual studies presso la Jacobs University di Brema (Germania), porta avanti ricerca e didattica su fumetto, illustrazione, animazione e narratologia.
Il suo graphic novel “Marmellata con laban (come mia madre è diventata libanese)” (“Murabbā wa laban (aw kayfa aṣbaḥat ummī lubnāniyya”) è uscito in Libano nel 2011 per Samandal e racconta la storia della madre dell\’autrice, tedesca trapiantata in Libano durante gli anni della guerra civile.

وُلدت لينا مرهج سنة 1977 من أمّ ألمانية وأب لبناني وحاليا تعيش في مارسيليا
ساهمت في تأسيس مجلة السمندل اللبنانية سنة 2007، وهي مجلة مستقلة وتجريبية للقصص المصورة. كانت السمندل رائدة في القصص المصورة العربية وحصلت على جائزة مهرجان أنغولام 2019 للكوميكس البديل
رسمت لينا العديد من كتب الأطفال وكتبت بعضها مع الرسوم، كما قدمت العديد من أفلام الرسوم المتحركة والروايات المصورة وحصلت على عدة جوائز عالمية. من المواضيع المحوارية في أعمالها الحرب، الطفولة، الهوية والهجرة
نالت درجة الدكتوراه بالدراسات البصرية من جامعة جاكوبس في بريمن، ألمانيا، وتعمل في البحث والتدريس في مجالات القصص المصورة، الرسم التوضيحي، الرسوم المتحركة والسرديات
تقص روايتها المصورة \”مربى ولبن (أو كيف أصبحت أمّي لبنانية)\”، من إصدار السمندل سنة 2011 بلبنان، حكاية أمّ الفنانة، إمرأة ألمانية انتقلت للعيش إلى لبنان ولم تغادر حتى أثناء الحرب الأهلية

Lena Merhej | Live drawing + book launch “Murabba wa laban”
Meet Lebanese comics artist Lena Merhej, whose graphic novel “Murabba wa laban” (“Jam and laban”, in Italian “Marmellata con laban”) has just been published in Italian by Edizioni Mesogea, translation from the Arabic by Enrica Battista.

Lena Merhej, born in 1977 to a German mother and a Lebanese father, currently lives in Marseille.
She is one of the founding members of Samandal, a Lebanese independent and experimental comics magazine, which has been seminal for the Arab world and was awarded the best alternative comics prize at the 2019 Angoulême festival.
She has illustrated and authored several children books, cartoons and comics, winning many international awards. A central role in her works is played by themes such as war, childhood, identity and migration.
After a doctorate in Visual Studies from the Jacobs University of Bremen (Germany), she researches and teaches in the fields of comics, illustration, animation and narratology.
Her graphic novel “Marmellata con laban (come mia madre è diventata libanese)” (“Murabbā wa laban (aw kayfa aṣbaḥat ummī lubnāniyya)”) was first published by Samandal in Lebanon in 2011 and tells the story of Lena\’s mother, a German woman who moved to Lebanon and lived there during the years of the civil war.
