Non c’è un romano che non l’abbia mai incrociato o intravisto, sorprendendosi a vederlo spuntare ogni volta sotto un aspetto o un colore diverso. Questa faccia fa ormai parte delle mura della Città, incisa su di esse, diventando un segno ben riconoscibile da tutti. Declinando questo personaggio in più forme e stili, JBROCK ha portato questa figura a diventare una delle icone del panorama street romano. Er Ciccio fa ormai parte dell’estetica della Città e dell’immaginario collettivo della Capitale.
L’arte di JBROCK è un proseguimento del rinnovamento artistico degli anni Sessanta con l’arte della Serie, che consiste nel prendere una figura e declinarla fino al suo sfinimento. In “Esercizi di Stile”, libro scritto nel 1947, l’autore francese Raymond Queneau racconta 99 volte la stessa storia, ma in 99 modi diversi. Lo stesso procedimento è alla base del lavoro di JB: una costrizione artistica e retorica come motore dell’espansione creativa.
Riprendendo la formula “Esercizi di Stile” JBROCK conduce in questa mostra le proprie esplorazioni parodiche e giocose nell’arte visiva, deviando i valori estetici associati a diversi stili selezionati nella Storia dell’Arte e della cultura Pop. Questo corpo di lavori si interroga infatti anche sulle fonti di ispirazione dell’artista, indicando da dove sia nato e come si sia costituito il suo bagaglio artistico, quali linguaggi abbiano attratto la sua attenzione entrando a far parte del suo immaginario.
Con questa mostra personale a Nero Gallery, JBROCK rende omaggio ai maestri del passato, dall’antichità fino a oggi, quelli che l’hanno ispirato e segnato nel più profondo, facendo diventare Er Ciccio il protagonista di questo esercizio.

There isn\’t a Roman who hasn\’t ever crossed paths with it or caught a glimpse of it, surprising themselves to see it appear every time in a different aspect or colour. This face is now part of the city walls, engraved on them, becoming a well-recognizable sign for everyone. Declining this character in multiple shapes and styles, JBROCK has led this figure to become one of the icons of the Roman street scene. Er Ciccio is now part of the aesthetics of the city and of the collective imagination of the capital.
JBROCK\’s art is a continuation of the artistic renewal of the sixties with the art of the Series, which consists in taking a figure and declining it until it is exhausted. In \”Exercises in Style\”, a book written in 1947, the French author Raymond Queneau tells the same story 99 times, but in 99 different ways. The same procedure is at the basis of JB\’s work: an artistic and rhetorical constraint as the engine of creative expansion.
Taking up the formula \”Exercises in Style\” JBROCK conducts in this exhibition his own parodic and playful explorations in visual art, diverting the aesthetic values associated with different styles selected in the History of Art and Pop culture. In fact, this body of works also questions the artist\’s sources of inspiration, indicating where he was born and how his artistic background was formed, which languages attracted his attention and became part of his imagination.
With this personal exhibition at Nero Gallery, JBROCK pays homage to the masters of the past, from antiquity to the present day, those who have inspired and marked him in the deepest, making Er Ciccio the protagonist of this exercise.
