Nero Gallery è lieta di ospitare per la seconda volta la mostra personale dell’artista belga Elzo Durt. Dopo il suo primo solo show romano intitolato Terroriste du Bonheur in 2018, Elzo collabora di nuovo con Nero Gallery seguendo le parole della canzone dei Bavarians: “Terroriste du bonheur, Kamikaze de l’amour”.
Kamikaze de l’Amour mette in mostra i nuovi lavori digitali di Elzo, con delle influenze ancora più psichedeliche e dei collage sempre più elaborati e dettagliati. Le sue creazioni uniscono due immaginari: quello punk e post-punk dai tratti irreverenti e surreali e quello più̀ razionale e geometrico del modernismo tedesco e dell’Art Nouveau. Dai colori fluo e pastello, le sue opere dissacranti e complesse fanno entrare lo spettatore in un universo fantastico e allucinante, in cui la cognizione della realtà̀ si perde tra i colori e le immagini.
La mostra esplora l’anima di musicista punk e quella di designer e grafico di Elzo: immagini rubate alla vita quotidiana, al mondo dell’arte, ai media, alla natura. Queste, elaborate e reinserite, diventano un nuovo bizzarro soggetto dai colori eccentrici ed irreali capaci di condurre verso un mondo enigmatico e sognante.
L’universo di Elzo Durt non smette di sorprenderci e di rivisitare un linguaggio artistico ampio e ricco di simboli che parte dalla Belle Époque per tuffarsi nella cultura Pop degli anni 60. Infatti, questo secondo show svela un lato più poetico e delicato del lavoro dell’artista, ma senza abbandonare questa originalità e follia che fanno di lui uno degli artisti più singolari e interessanti della scena contemporanea. Elzo è come lo cantano i Bavarians: “Kamikaze de l’amour, Kamikaze pour toujours!”.
BIO:
L’artista, nato a Bruxelles nel 1980, dopo un’adolescenza passata tra skateboard e cultura punk, si diploma nel 2003 con una laurea in graphic design presso la Scuola di Ricerca Grafica (Graphic Research School) a Bruxelles e inizia a inondare il Belgio con il suo immaginario psichedelico e punk.
Nel 2004 apre la sua galleria d’arte, Plin Tub, a Bruxelles, che è anche la sua casa editrice. Dà opportunità̀ per esibire le sue opere e quelle dei suoi artisti preferiti.
Allo stesso tempo diventa responsabile della comunicazione grafica al Recyclart, la mecca della cultura underground nella capitale belga. Fino al 2006 è stato anche il direttore artistico di Voxer Magazine. Nel corso degli anni rafforza la sua reputazione disegnando poster e copertine di album per svariati gruppi ed etichette Thee Oh Sees, Frustration, La Femme, Le Prince Harry, Magnetix, Jack of Heart, per nominarne alcuni.
Egli ha inoltre realizzato le tavole da skate e snowboard per brand come Carhartt, Rome and Flip, Lacoste e Step Art. L’universo allegramente morboso di Elzo può essere oggi visto su locandine di festival, poster, album, e giornali come Le Monde. Con le sue serigrafie, ha viaggiato per tutta Europa, e attraversato l’Atlantico esponendo anche negli Stati Uniti.
Al “Jack of All Trades”, Elzo, e il suo amico parigino Froos, hanno lanciato la loro etichetta musicale “Teenage Menopause Records” nel 2011, registrando JC Satan, Scorpion Violente e Le Prince Harry. Questo gli ha ulteriormente fornito l’opportunità di continuare a coltivare i suoi grandi amori, il design di copertine per album, l’organizzazione di concerti e, soprattutto, far festa!

Nero Gallery is pleased to host for the second time the solo exhibition of Belgian artist Elzo Durt. After his first solo show in Rome titled Terroriste du Bonheur in 2018, Elzo collaborates again with Nero Gallery following the words of the Bavarians\’ song, \”Terroriste du bonheur, Kamikaze de l\’amour.\”
Kamikaze de l\’Amour showcases Elzo\’s new digital works with even more psychedelic influences and increasingly elaborate and detailed collages. His creations combine two imaginaries: the punk and post-punk one with irreverent and surreal features and the morè rational and geometric one of German modernism and Art Nouveau. Fluorescent and pastel-colored, his irreverent and complex works make the viewer enter a fantastic and hallucinatory universe, in which the cognition of realitỳ is lost among the colors and images.
The exhibition explores Elzo\’s soul as a punk musician and that of a designer and graphic designer: images stolen from everyday life, the art world, the media, and nature. These, processed and reinserted, become a new bizarre subject with eccentric and unreal colors capable of leading to an enigmatic and dreamy world.
Elzo Durt\’s universe never ceases to surprise us and to revisit a broad and symbol-rich artistic language that starts from the Belle Époque and dives into the Pop culture of the 1960s. Indeed, this second show reveals a more poetic and delicate side of the artist\’s work, but without abandoning this originality and madness that make him one of the most singular and interesting artists on the contemporary scene. Elzo is as the Bavarians sing it, \”Kamikaze de l\’amour, Kamikaze pour toujours!\”
BIO:
The artist, born in Brussels in 1980, after an adolescence spent between skateboarding and punk culture, graduated in 2003 with a degree in graphic design from the Graphic Research School in Brussels and began flooding Belgium with his psychedelic and punk imagery.
In 2004 he opened his art gallery, Plin Tub, in Brussels, which is also his publishing house. He gives opportunities̀ to exhibit his works and those of his favorite artists.
At the same time, he became head of graphic communications at Recyclart, the mecca of underground culture in the Belgian capital. Until 2006 he was also the art director of Voxer Magazine. Over the years he strengthened his reputation by designing posters and album covers for a variety of bands and labels Thee Oh Sees, Frustration, La Femme, Le Prince Harry, Magnetix, and Jack of Heart, to name a few.
He has also designed skateboards and snowboards for brands such as Carhartt, Rome and Flip, Lacoste, and Step Art. Elzo\’s cheerfully morbid universe can now be seen on festival posters, posters, albums, and newspapers such as Le Monde. With his silkscreens, he has traveled throughout Europe, and crossed the Atlantic exhibiting in the United States as well.
At the \”Jack of All Trades,\” Elzo, and his Parisian friend Froos, launched their music label \”Teenage Menopause Records\” in 2011, recording JC Satan, Scorpion Violente, and Le Prince Harry. This further provided him with the opportunity to continue cultivating his great loves, designing album covers, organizing concerts, and most importantly, partying!
